Don’t Back Down!
God is calling you to live life at full capacity. He has a plan and a destiny for you that requires you to take bold action steps to obey Him. It takes courage to put everything on the line to follow God.
Following God takes Courage
It took guts to pack everything up and make a cross-country move to North Dallas. We had many years of pastoral ministry in Nashville Tennessee, but we knew God was calling us to lay everything down and begin again in a new field of his choosing. It would have been easier for us in some ways to pastor an existing church, rather than to plant a church from scratch in a new city and state.
I was awakened to TEXAS! I actually woke up one morning and saw the state of Texas surrounded in flames with a sense in my heart that God was outlining our new territory. As God miraculously opened doors for us, we stepped through them in faith. We had a firm sense of His calling, but we didn’t have every detail figured out.
Soon after we arrived in Texas, I found myself fully realizing the RISK we had just taken. I missed my adult daughters. I thought about how much easier taking a secure ministry assignment would have been. It was at that point, that I woke up one morning with God giving me the following faith-filled declaration:
Called to Take RISKS
All of us are called to take risks in our lives with bold faith anchored in God’s faithfulness. Why is it that when we become older, we stop launching out in faith. We tend to want to play it safe.
Joshua was not a young man any more when God called him to take Israel into the promised land. His mentor, leader, and friend Moses had just died. Moses had been the miracle worker who God used to deliver the people out of Egypt. God knew Joshua was feeling a bit insecure when He said to Joshua:
“Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you… For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.
“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them… This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:2,3,5,6,9 NLT
Entering God’s Promised Land
Our life is a journey of entering into God’s promises for our lives. We never “arrive” we are always on a journey.
1. Don’t Look Back
When we are at the cross roads of our lives it is easy to look back in fondness at our past season. Change is hard for all of us. It requires us to let go of things that were good in order to lay hold of our best.
2. Move Forward
Moving forward takes faith in God. Joshua was leading the people to a place he had never been. He didn’t have it all figured out, but He heard God encouraging him and strengthening him. We are always moving forward if we are following God. He never leads us to be stagnant. He moves us to be in life-giving territory.
3. God is with You
In Christ, every place we put our feet we know that God is with us. He is the author and the finisher of our faith. He is the promiser who is faithful to fulfill His word. Yes, we may have disappointments and failures, but God is using everything for our good to make us more like Him. He is with us through the entire process. He never let’s us go.
100 Innovative Leaders
We are looking for 100 innovative leaders to become a part of the launch team for Life Bridge Church. You may not feel like you are “innovative” or even that you are a “leader.” Yet, if you feel stirred that you want to be a part of:
- A place where everyone is welcome, no one is perfect, and everything is possible, with God!
- A place where you can be who God has created you to be, while building relationships that last a lifetime.
- A place where you can grow, learn, and mature as you also help others to grow, learn and mature as disciples of Christ.
